We are a support group based in Mesa, AZ dedicated to offering support to families struggling with Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders.

What is an Eosinophil?

Eosinophils (eo-sin-e-fil) are a type of white blood cell that take up the red dye eosin when examined under a microscope. They are part of the body's immune system. Eosinophils help protect the body against disease and infections.

What are Eosinophilc Gastrointestinal Disorders (EGID)?

Eosinophilc Gastrointestinal Disorders (EGID) are disorders characterized by having high numbers of eosinophils in a specific area of the digestive system. Eosinophils may accumulate as a reaction to food allergens and in Eosinophilic Esophagitis they may accumulate as a reaction to airborne allergens. When this occurs, they can inflame or injure the tissue. Symptoms vary depending on the affected area.

     Symptoms may include:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Failure to thrive
  • Malnutrition
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Reflux
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Bloating
  • Food impactions (food stuck in the throat)
  • Blood in stool
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Anemia

Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE) -Affects the esophagus.

Eosinophilic Gastritis (EG )- Affects the stomach.

Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis (EGE) -Affects the stomach and small intestine

Eosinophilic Colitis (EC) -Affects the large intestine
